Mosquito Spraying In Lawton!

The City of Lawton’s Drainage Maintenance Division will begin its vector control program to eradicate adult mosquitoes across Lawton. The process will begin May 23 and will last through Sept. 23. The process is conducted using low toxicity chemicals. The division uses Permanone RTU, which is an adulticide that is a type of insecticide used to kill adult mosquitoes. This is dispersed using Ultra Low Volume (ULV) Foggers to help control adult mosquitoes. Permanone is made by BAYER and is approved by both the Environmental Protection Agency and the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry for the control of insect pests.

Fogging in various areas of town will take place periodically from 4-6 a.m. Monday through Friday, weather permitting. A map is available on the city’s website to see what areas are currently being treated, what area is next or what area has been completed: https://www.lawtonok.gov/services/mosquito-control-map.

For questions, contact the City of Lawton’s Drainage Maintenance Division at 580-581-3424.

Texas man among 3 killed in Interstate 35 Crash

"The vehicle hydroplaned before it came back onto the interstate and was struck by a tractor-trailer rig"

Police lights

Three University of Oklahoma meteorology students were killed in a crash when their vehicle was struck by a tractor-trailer rig in northern Oklahoma late Friday, according to a crash report. The students were travelling back from chasing a powerful tornado in Kansas, officials confirmed. Nicholas Nair, 20, of Denton, Texas; Gavin Short, 19, of Grayslake, Illinois; and Drake Brooks, 22, of Evansville, Indiana, died in the crash shortly before 11:30 p.m. Friday, according to an Oklahoma Highway Patrol report. The three were in a vehicle being driven by Nair southbound on Interstate 35 when the vehicle hydroplaned in Tonkawa, about 85 miles (137 kilometers) north of Oklahoma City, the report said. The vehicle went off, then back onto the interstate where it was struck by a southbound tractor-trailer rig, according to the OHP.
